Harding Men's Tennis Sweeps Doubles, Wins Again
April 14, 2017
FORT SMITH, Ark. – When Harding men's tennis has been good at doubles, it has been tough to beat. True again Wednesday. The Bisons won all three doubles matches and defeated UAFS 7-2 in non-conference action at the Fort Smith Athletic Club.
Harding's win was its third straight and boosted its record to 9-7 overall. UAFS dropped to 4-10.
Alejandro Sendra and Adria Abella, Harding's No. 3 doubles team, won 8-3 for its fourth consecutive win. Neto Cacace and Pablo Trevino followed with an 8-3 win at No. 2, its third straight victory. Harding completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 victory at No. 1 by A.J. Barrington and Carlos Crisostomo.
It was Harding's sixth doubles sweep of the season, and all six of those matches have resulted in Harding victories.
Needing only two wins in singles to clinch the match, Harding won four, all in straight sets. Crisostomo pitched a shutout at No. 2, defeating Luke Anderson 6-0, 6-0. It was only the second time in 65 singles matches at Harding that Crisostomo won without losing a game.
Sendra clinched it for the Bisons with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1. Cacace won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4, and Brandon Hogland won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5.
Harding's next action is Saturday in Searcy against Oklahoma Baptist in GAC action. The winner of the match claims the GAC regular season championship. Harding last won a men's tennis regular season conference championship in 1993.
