UAM Softball sweeps day, splits series with Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team swept the afternoon against Arkansas Tech on the road to split the over series with wins at 4-1, and 3-2.

Game one in this doubleheader for the Blossoms (30-14, 23-9 GAC) against Arkansas Tech (29-17, 23-11 GAC) featured ATU on the board first in the opening inning to lead 1-0.

UAM took over the game offensively however starting in the top of the fourth inning with a Kendra Coleman two-run home run to give the Blossoms the 2-1 advantage.

The Blossoms extended its lead in the following inning as Kali Bolter singled up the middle for the 3-1 edge and sealed the game up in the top of the seventh on a Coleman sacrifice fly to put the game at 4-1.

Kendra Coleman (W, 18-4) earned the win starting in the circle, throwing a complete game, only surrendering one earned run, and struck out eight total.

The second match-up of the day saw the Blossoms on the scoreboard first in the opening inning after RBI singles from Kaylee Freeman and Brittany Gentry gave UAM the 2-0 lead.

ATU went on to tie up the game in the bottom half of the inning, and the contest remained tied until the fifth when Freeman was able to draw a bases loaded walk which scored the go ahead and eventually winning run.

Freeman (W, 7-7) also started in the circle in game two, as she threw a complete game, only gave up two earned runs and recorded two strikeouts.

The Blossoms will be back on the field next, Tuesday April 18, as UAM will host GAC rival Southern Arkansas in Monticello at Blossoms Field in a doubleheader with game one set to start at 1 p.m.
