Pittsburg museum displays historic speedway memories

PITTSBURG, Kan. (AP) — Gary Wilbur settled his helmet on his head and started up his dragster. He pulled up to the starting line at the Mo-Kan Dragway, waited for the lights to turn from blue to red, and gunned it.

He made it down the quarter-mile strip, topping out at 141 mph.

Wilbur, 73, of Rogers, Arkansas, has been racing at the Mo-Kan Dragway for more than 50 years.

"All the people here are nice and easy to get along," he said of the speedway that is now 55 years old and is located in Asbury, Missouri. Across the state line, memorabilia from the drag strip is on display at the Crawford Co...
