Wichita council approves star bonds for new baseball stadium

 


WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A new ball park to replace Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita is one step closer to reality.

The Wichita City Council on Tuesday approved a sales tax bond district to fund about half the projected cost of replacing Lawrence-Dumont.

The Wichita Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/2p5CyCM ) the goal is to replace the 82-year-old stadium with a modern baseball park that could also be used for soccer.

Star bonds are expected to pay about half of the expected $40 million cost. City officials hope that will be enough to build a new stadium, although a major renovation could be an alter...
