Retirement reception for Michelle Schroeder

Rodger Gagnon, Cargill Salt's plant manager, wishes Michelle Schroeder well in her retirement.

A retirement reception was held for Michelle Schroeder last Friday at the Cargill Solar Salt Processing plant eight miles west of Freedom. Schroeder has been employed almost 34 years, starting out as human resources manager and generally evolving to office manager.

At the present time, the firm has 30 employees at the Freedom site. Schroeder said she has enjoyed her years at Cargill, saying they have great company benefits and are a really good company to work for in the Freedom area.

When asked if she has retirement plans, she said there are no plans other than continuing to help around the family farm with her husband, Dennis, and care for her 100-year-old mother-in-law. She also may be doing a bit of water-truck driving since they have business in that area also.

Reminiscing, she said that she and Dennis got married right of high school, and they've lived out on the family farm for the last 47 years.

They pair have two children: Jennifer, who teaches in Protection, Kansas, and Jesse, who is a morning TV anchor in Dennison, Texas, on Channel 8. Jesse is married to Amanda, who also graduated from Freedom High School and NWOSU, and now works at the college in Dennison.

The Schroeders have two grandchildren in Protection and three in Texas.
