Newly appointed head golf coach Aaron Ford has announced the addition of five new Rangers that will be joining the men's golf team this upcoming season. Ford's first recruiting class on the men's side will showcase a consistent group of golfers that figure to make immediate impacts for the team.

"I'm very excited for these new Rangers to begin their careers here in Alva," coach Ford said, "All of these guys have the talent and ability to produce quality rounds for us no matter what the conditions of the golf course provide us. Each one of these athletes also brings a high level of character with them which will be even more impactful to the program as we continue to build a winning mindset."

The newcomers are: Ben Snelgrove from Kerrville, Texas; Keiton Hoster from Brock, Texas; Tanner Harris from Elgin, Oklahoma; Tyler Berryhill from Maypearl, Texas; and Daniel Wyatt, a transfer from Oklahoma Wesleyan originally from Edmond, Oklahoma.

Ben Snelgrove will begin his career as a Ranger with elite tournament experience after competing in traditionally one of the toughest golf districts in the state of Texas. Snelgrove earned First Team All-District accolades twice and qualified for the 6A Region 4 Tournament. The Kerrville Tivy High School product finished second overall in the South Texas Junior PGA Summer Series in 2016 and fired a low round of 70 during his prep career. Snelgrove was awarded the President's Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in 2017 and was a First Team Academic All-State in both 2016 and 2017.

"Ben comes to us from an elite high school program in an area known for producing quality golfers. He has been successful at every level that he has competed at during his prep career and I anticipate for that to continue at the collegiate level due to his desire to compete and understanding of the game," said Coach Ford.

Keiton Hoster joins the program after a strong performance in the 2017 3A Texas State High School Golf Championships for Brock High School. He closed his final round of the tournament with a career-low round of 71 and consistently showed promise throughout the season as a future collegiate golfer. Hoster finished his final season with a tournament scoring average of 74.6 and also participated on the baseball team.

"Keiton will be a guy that will continually compete among our team because of his ability to shoot low scores on tough golf courses. His confidence level will be high after his recent performance at the state championships and I look for him to compete right away," said Coach Ford.

Tanner Harris will make the trip up to Alva following a multi-sport career at Elgin High school. Harris competed on the golf, baseball, and basketball teams during his prep career and continued to improve throughout his high school career. He netted a total of 10 top-ten finishes in his career with a career-low round of 72. He was a two-time regional champion while sporting a scoring average of right at 77.

"Tanner is a great athlete that has the desire and potential to be a difference maker in this program. Focusing on golf full time will allow him to develop the potential he has shown throughout his high school career. I look for Tanner to come in and be able to continually improve immediately, and contribute to a young group of Rangers," Coach Ford said.

Tyler Berryhill will bring a wealth of experience on the golf course to Alva following a four-year career at Maypearl High School. Berryhill was named Golf MVP three times and finished in the top 10 at the 3A Texas High School State Golf Championships both his junior and senior seasons. The valedictorian of his senior class, Berryhill also competed at the quarterback for his high school team while producing a scoring average of 76.15 on the golf course.

"Tyler has a solid fundamental approach to the game and will be able to handle the pressures and stresses of being a collegiate golfer. A high IQ kid with a desire to compete and get better, his talent will allow him to compete on the team immediately," Coach Ford said.

Daniel Wyatt transfers in after playing a season at Oklahoma Wesleyan. He was a member of a State Champion Deer Creek High School team in 2014 while finishing 11th as an individual. Wyatt notched a top-10 finish at the state preview in 2014 as well. He notched a low round of 79 while competing at Oklahoma Wesleyan and will enter the fall semester ready to improve in the new environment.

"Daniel brings experience from a quality program at Oklahoma Wesleyan and proved his ability to compete at the collegiate level by qualifying for a few tournaments on a very talented team. He understands what it takes to succeed at this level and will be a great influence on the younger players we have in our program," said Coach Ford.
