Duo Earns Conference Weekly Awards

September 13, 2017

SHAWNEE – Kelsey Bumgarner and Emily Griffith were named the Great American Conference's Defender and Goalkeeper of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. It's the second straight week for Lady Bison to claim both awards.

Bumgarner, a sophomore hailing from Mustang, Oklahoma, played every minute in last week's double-overtime victory over the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha. The defender helped a backline that limited the Drovers to season lows in goals scored (1) and shots on goal (3), while also contributing on offense with one shot to her credit. It's the first time in her career to earn the weekly honor.

Griffith, a redshirt freshman out of Parker, Colorado, repeats as Goalkeeper of the Week after allowing one goal against a high-powered USAO offense that had averaged better than three goals per match prior to Saturday night's meeting. Griffith collected two saves in the outing to help OBU extend its program-best start to the season with a third consecutive win. It's the second time in her career to be named a conference player of the week.

Oklahoma Baptist has now earned four weekly honors by three different Lady Bison, more than any other GAC school this season.

The Lady Bison (3-0) will look for a fourth straight victory as they continue their road trip this week when they head to Wichita Falls, Texas, to face Midwestern State on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.
