West Thurston firefighters save dogs trained to take cover

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Firefighters in Washington state were able to save the lives of two dogs that are trained to seek cover in the bathtub if they sense danger.

The West Thurston Regional Fire Authority went to a house fire on Wednesday and found the dogs unconscious in a bathtub.

Authorities say one dog began to seize and the other was making efforts to breathe as they were given oxygen masks and taken to an animal clinic, where vet staff treated the dogs for smoke inhalation.

The dogs' owners, who were not home at the time of the fire, said their pets are self-trained to go into the bathro...
