SWOSU Tops Northwestern in GAC Opener

September 20, 2017

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Soccer was victorious over rival Northwestern 5-2 on Tuesday, opening up Great American Conference play with a decisive win and bouncing back from the defeat they suffered over the weekend.

The Bulldogs led 4-0 after halftime and extended the lead to 5-0 shortly after the intermission, giving themselves more than enough breathing room for the remainder of the match.

Alimata Rabo, fresh off being named a United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week for her offensive outburst last week, scored two more goals in the match – one in the first half and one in the second half. Kodi Holloway, Hannah Burks, and Kendall Harris were all responsible for the rest of the first-half goals, each collecting their first goals of the season in the process.

Northwestern managed to get two goals past Lexie Bates and Steffi Silvera (each responsible for one), but the margin proved to be far too great to overcome.

The Dawgs outshot NWOSU 15-6 on the afternoon including 9-4 on goal, and held the Rangers to just one first-half shot.

SWOSU (4-2, 1-0 GAC) will now face a conference road test against East Central on Thursday, taking on the Tigers at 4 pm in Ada.
