School threat leads to bomb-making charges for man, teen

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina man and a teenager are accused of making homemade bombs following a threat against a middle school.

News outlets report that an investigation began Tuesday after a parent reported that a White Knoll Middle School student had posted a threat to social media. Lexington School District 1 said in a statement that the student connected to the posts was suspended.

Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon says a search of 57-year-old Peter John Munson's house Tuesday yielded a homemade explosive mixture and chemicals used to produce incendiary devices. Koon says evidence of a used incendiary device was found in Munson's yard. He turned himself in Thursday.

Munson and the unidentified juvenile are each charged with possessing or threatening to use a destructive device. It's unclear if they have lawyers.
