Alva Goldbugs host Christian Heritage for playoff tonight

November 10, 2017

Coming off a 49-28 win over Newkirk, the Alva Goldbugs host Christian Heritage Academy in first round Class 2A playoffs tonight. Game time is 7 p.m. at Ranger Field. “We’ll try to keep the momentum going,” said Goldbug Head Coach Taylor Schwerdtfeger.

The Christian Heritage Crusaders from Del City are ranked third in District 2 behind Millwood and Luther. CHA is 4-2 in their district with losses to those top two teams. Their only other loss was to a Class 3A school, Oklahoma Christian.

Alva is ranked second in District 1 with Chisholm at the top spot. The Goldbugs’ only loss in the season was to Chisholm.

Schwerdtfeger said Christian Heritage has probably the best quarterback in 2A. “It definitely will be a tough game for us,” he added.

The coach said he talked with the CHA coach this week, and they both think the same thing. “It’s probably the toughest first round game you’re going to see in the state,” said Schwerdtfeger.

It will be a game well worth watching. Coach Schwerdtfeger said, “It could be a high-scoring game,” based on past performances of the teams.

The winner of tonight’s game will advance to play the winner of the Lindsay vs. Marietta matchup next Friday.

Three other district one teams will play tonight. Chisholm will host Meeker; Hennessey plays at Luther; and Tonkawa is at Millwood.

Admission prices to all rounds of the playoffs are $7 for students and adults. Only OSSAA passes will be accepted.
