No. 7/5 Lady Bulldogs Beat Savage Storm to Remain Unbeaten in GAC Play

February 16, 2018

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Behind a career high 23 points from Taylor Hedrick and a combined 75 points from the starting five, the No. 7/5 Lady Bulldogs extended their win streak to 15 games on Thursday night after defeating Southeastern 80-65 inside the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.

SWOSU outscored Southeastern in all four quarters of the contest and slowly but surely inched away from Southeastern by the end of the game. The Lady Dawgs led by seven at halftime at 36-29, and immediately jumped out to a double-digit lead in the third quarter where the game remained for nearly the entire second half.

SE trailed by six (their smallest deficit of the half) nearing the midway point of the third quarter, but a subsequent 8-0 run by SWOSU in the following two minutes immediately pushed the margin back to double digits.

Southeastern attempted to push the pace to initiate a comeback in the fourth quarter, but the Dawgs matched the pace and smothered any run the Savage Storm tried to go on. Tyra Aska played a big part of that, scoring 12 of her 14 points in those final 10 minutes.

On the night, SWOSU shot an even 40% (28-of-70) as a team compared to SE's 38.5% (25-of-65) shooting. Both teams shot under 30% from the beyond the arc on the night, but it was the Lady Dawgs who dominated the free throw category by shooting 18-for-21 (85.7%) from the charity stripe compared to just 8-for-9 (88.9%) from Southeastern.

Hedrick made a living in the paint, tallying 20 of her 23 points around the basket on drives and lay ins. She shot an efficient 10-for-17 (58.8%) from the field and 1-of-4 from beyond the arc in her ninth double digit scoring performance of the season and second 20-plus point game of the season.

Hayden Priddy also notched a 20-point scoring night after finishing right at 20 points, knocking down 4-of-9 (44.4%) from three-point land. Hailey Tucker collected her eighth double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Tyra Aska chipped in 14 points herself. Bethany Franks did not score on Thursday night for the first time all season, but left her mark on the game with nine rebounds to her credit.

SWOSU (23-1, 18-0 GAC) will close out the week on the road in Ada when they take on East Central on Saturday (Feb. 17) inside the Kerr Activities Center.
