Woman charged with domestic assault

An Alva woman is facing an assault charge after getting into a fight with her boyfriend. Natosha Jean Faucett, 24, of Alva is charged with domestic assault and battery in the presence of a minor, a misdemeanor. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for not less than six months nor more than one year, and/or by a fine of up to $5,000.

According to court documents, on Feb. 22 at 5:24 p.m. Alva Police Officer Kris Franta was dispatched to the 500 block of Center Street on a report of domestic battery. He arrived and spoke with Faucett who said her boyfriend, Jayce Gragert, came home and gave her some money, telling her to get out of the house. She said she was loading things into her car when she and Gragert got into a fight about a gas can and who was going to take the kids.

Faucett told Officer Franta she accidentally knocked the TV off the TV stand while they were arguing. She said the TV hit one of the children, but she was not injured. When asked if she hit Gragert, Faucett said she smacked him in the face one time because he would not give her one of the children.

Officer Franta talked to Gragert who said Faucett was loading stuff to leave, and she asked him to put gas in her car from a gas can. He said he started putting gas in the car, but Faucett said something to him that made him angry so he went inside the house.

Gragert said Faucett followed him inside and acted like she was going to break something if he didn’t do what she said. Gragert said he told her to do it and he would call the cops. Gragert says they then came downstairs to the living room and started arguing.

At this time Faucett’s brother, Ethan Dotterer, came into the living room. Gragert said while in the living room, Faucett slammed the TV to the ground striking their child. He said the child was holding her foot like she was hurt but seemed to be uninjured. Gragert said when he took his phone out to call the police, Faucett started hitting him and punching him in the head. Franta observed Gragert had a small cut on the left side of his head.

Dotter told Franta he came to the living room when the two were arguing. He said he witnessed Faucett throw the TV on the ground and hit Gragert in the back of the head when he was going to call the police.

Joyce Stebens, a grandmother, came into the residence and attempted to remove the three young children from the situation, according to the affidavit. Stebens said Faucett grabbed her by the hair on the back of her head as she was attempting to remove the children. Faucett told Franta she pushed Stebens when she walked toward her but denied pulling her hair.

Franta also spoke with the two girls, ages 6 and 4. The older girl reported her mom and dad were fighting, and she saw her mom slam the TV on the floor by hitting it. She said the TV hit her younger sister on the foot. The younger girl showed Franta a small red mark on her heel she said was caused by the TV. She said her mom was being mean to her dad so she hit her in the head with a princess slipper. A third child, age 3, was also present during the altercation.

Officer Franta placed Faucett in handcuffs and she was transported to the Woods County Jail.
