OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma woman is receiving $187,500 in taxpayer funds to settle a lawsuit that alleges an off-duty police officer pointed a gun at her and threatened to kill her.

Documents show that the Oklahoma City Council has approved the settlement, but didn't admit liability in the case.

The Oklahoman reports that 38-year-old Vielka Lippe and her husband sued the city and police officer Christopher Howard in 2015.

The excessive force lawsuit stemmed from when Lippe crashed her vehicle in 2014 trying to flee from Howard, who she says threatened her life. The lawsuit alleges that Lippe was unloading a humidifier for her sick child when Howard approached her vehicle with a gun.

Documents show Howard thought he was witnessing a crime and believed he was acting in the interests of his department and the city.
