March 29, 2018

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Arkansas Tech's Teresa Sanchez has earned Great American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Wednesday. Sanchez is the fourth different Golden Suns to be named player of the week this season.

Sanchez joins teammates Katharina Drebka, Annabel Rowlands and Julia Schoch as recipients of the conference weekly honor this season, as Arkansas Tech becomes the first team in GAC women's tennis history to have four different student-athletes earned player of the week honors in the same year.

Arkansas Tech faced its toughest opponent of the season last week, falling to No. 2 West Florida in Pensacola on Thursday. Sanchez was the highlight for the Golden Suns, as she combined with Rowlands for an 8-3 victory in the No. 2 doubles match. In singles action, Sanchez dropped a two-set match to the 33rd-ranked player in Division II, Jordan Lujan.

Sanchez has a 5-4 singles record and a 4-5 doubles record this spring. She is one of three Suns with nine singles victories over the fall and spring combined. Arkansas Tech returns to the court on Friday, March 30, as the Suns travel to Pine Bluff, Ark. to take UAPB. Tech's next home match is scheduled for Friday, April 6, against Southeastern Oklahoma at 2 p.m.
