March 30, 2018

FAIRVIEW – Alva High School track and field had its first meet of the season on Tuesday as the boys and girls teams traveled to Fairview.

Both teams made a good showing in the first meet of the season, with the girls bringing home six first-place finishes and a team placing of fourth place, while the boys recorded the top spot in the 1600-meter relay.

Ray Ray Bell and Rianna Clark both had solid meets as they finished with three and two first-place finishes, respectively. Bell earned the top spot in the 800-meter and 1600-meter, and Clark finished first in the 400-meter and the long jump.

Bell teamed up with Mia Walker, Rachel Bratton and Priscila Samaniego to win the 3200-meter relay event.

There were four second-place finishers in the girls meet with Payton Jones doing so in both the high jump and 300-meter hurdles, Acacia Charles earning the placing in the long jump behind teammate Clark, and Samaniego finishing second in the 3200-meter.

The Goldbugs boys 1600-meter relay team that brought home the top spot included Garrett Ritter, Gavin Perez, Reese Martin and Dawson Manning. In the 800-meter relay, Manning teamed up with Steven Willyard, Mitchell Meyer and Davion Murrow for a third-place mark.

The Alva boys added three Top 3 field event finishes as well. Dylan McGuire and Garrett Ritter finished back-to-back in the high jump with McGuire taking the second spot just ahead of Ritter in third.

Kellen Claflin had the second longest throw in the discus.

Rounding out the top finishers on the Bugs were Meyer, Murrow, Martin and Triston Swonger, who finished as the third-place team in the 400-meter relay.

AHS takes to the track again on April 6 in a meet at Okeene.
