RSU Women's Track & Field Puts 5 in Top 5 at UCA Open

CONWAY, Ark. – Senior Hailey Gillispie won the 1,500 meters and the Rogers State women's track & field team put five Hillcats in the top five at the Central Arkansas Open on Saturday (April 14) in cold and windy conditions at the Bill Stephens Track and Soccer Complex.

Gillispie took first in the 1,500 meters with her performance of 4:56.50 in the event, a personal best. J'Cee Holmes earned a top 10 mark in the 1,500 meters as she finished ninth in 5:09.99.

Gillispie also turned in a third place tally in the 800 meters, timing a season-best 2:19.15. Freshman Tayler Lee joined Gillispie in the top 10 in ninth in 2:28.20.

Olivia Couch was second in the long jump for the navy and red. She went a distance of 16 feet, 10.75 inches to be the top finisher outside of NCAA Division I competition.

In the sprints, Senior Sch'Cara Young earned two top five finishes in the 100 and 200 meters on the cold and windy day. The senior posted second in the 100 meters in her time of 12.19 seconds. She added another top five in the 200 meters as she timed 26.20 seconds in the event.

Destiny Thompkins and Calah Singleton joined Young in the top 10 in the 100 meters. Thompkins sprinted to eighth in the race in 12.83 seconds. Singleton was right behind in the event in 10th place, timing 12.95 seconds.

J'Cee Holmes added another top 10 in the 5,000 meters. She totaled a mark of 18:42.53.

The Hillcats now prepare for the Great American Conference Championship next Friday and Saturday (April 20-21) in Magnolia, Ark.
