87th anniversary celebration

The 87th anniversary of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority was celebrated by the Beta Eta and Xi Gamma Nu chapters and guest Barbara Rockenbach at the annual Founder's Day Banquet held on April 30. Beta Sigma Phi is an international women's friendship network that provides educational programs to its members and opportunities for service to others. Members enjoy cultural and social events and donate to International Funds and local worthwhile causes.

Members gathered at the Cherokee Strip Museum Annex in Alva and enjoyed punch and visitation during the social time. The tables were decorated with a picnic theme of bandana napkins, baskets and geraniums that were given as door prizes.

Lucy Rhodes led the group in singing the National Anthem accompanied by Charla Parker. The welcome was given by Doris Roberts, president of Bet Eta chapter, and she led the Opening Ritual. ViAnn Wiersig led the Beta Sigma Phi grace and Ida Evans, president of Xi Gamma Nu, lead the Founder's Day Pledge. President Roberts read the message from International and announced the 2018-2019 Theme: A Quilt of Friendship.

Each chapter presented a review of the past year's activities given by Peggy O'Neil and Linda Overton and perfect attendance awards were announced. Honorees receiving Girl of the Year awards were Xi Gamma Nu President Linda Roten and Beta Eta members Doris Roberts and Linda Overton. At the conclusion of the banquet, Cheri Lau led members in the closing ritual and mizpah.
