Chuck wagon donated to Cherokee Strip Museum

Recently, a chuck wagon that made the Oklahoma run in 1893 was donated to the Cherokee Strip Museum by Verna and Calvin Graybill, in honor and memory of the Haun family from Carmen. This is a brief history of that family provided by Verna Pelter Graybill.

The earliest family members in Oklahoma were two friends, Jonathan Cooprider (1827–1919) and Polaskia "Pete Haun (1851–1939), both originally from Indiana. Cooprider had been a member of an Indiana regiment during the Civil War, was captured, and spent time as a POW at Libby and Andersonville prisons. Conditions in these prisons were harsh, a...
