MARY JOANN (MORGAN) HALE-STRANGE-JONES

 

JoAnn was born 20 miles northwest of Alva on June 24, 1935, to Roy Edgar Morgan and Luella Dunnigan Morgan. She attended the Farry School northwest of Alva for 12 years, graduating in 1953. Following high school she attended Draughn's Business College in Oklahoma City, before moving to Pueblo, Colorado, in 1949 where she worked for a railroad and met Harley M. Hale. They were married on February 3, 1956, and had five daughters, Rita Darlene (Hamner), Kathy Lynne (Johnson), Susan Kay (Cauthen), Charla Dee (Cole) and Carla Lea (McKinzie). Harley passed away on July 9,1994. Harley and JoAnn operated three businesses. One business was in Jackson, Mississippi, from 1974 to 1983. Three businesses were in Alva, Oklahoma, from 1983 to 1994 including the Hale Vacuum Cleaner, Lullaby Nursery and a coin-operated laundromat. JoAnn worked for Central National Bank of Alva for over 14 years. She retired in 1997.

Through the years, JoAnn also held officer's positions in the Republican Women's Organizations in Pueblo, Colorado, and in Alva. JoAnn gave piano lessons, coached a community basketball team in Pueblo, did modeling on TV, taught bible classes, enjoyed filling in for pianists or music directors at various churches and singing for church services in Alva and Yukon, (after moving there in 2004). At one time, she was the reporter and program director for the Senior Citizens Center in Alva. JoAnn was married to Cecil B. Strange on July 6, 1995, and two stepdaughters were added, Rebecca Walls and Gloria McDonald. Following the death of Cecil, JoAnn remarried Jay Jones in 2010. They resided in Mustang, Oklahoma, until the time of her death.

A memorial service will be held for JoAnn on May 29, 2018, at 2 p.m. The service will be at the Church of God in Alva, with officiating pastor Bob Brown. Everyone is welcome.
