Here's the perfect alternative PTA fundraiser form

This fundraiser is in lieu of sending students home with the task of selling door-to-door, collecting money and delivering goods. Please help us avoid that by supporting our PTA with your donation, and helping achieve our goals to support our students and faculty.

Thank you in advance for your support.

____$10 I do not want to bake, so here is the money I would have spent on cupcakes.

____$25 I do not want to hit up friends, family and co-workers. So here is the money I would have spent on wrapping paper.

___$50 I do not want to walk, swim or run in any activity that has the word “thon” in it. Here's the money I would have spent on my child's “FREE” T-shirt.

___$100 I really wouldn't have helped any way. So here is $100 to forget my name.

___$ I am making this donation to express my appreciation for having nothing to buy, sell or do except fill out this form.

Unrelated to the humor above, today, Wednesday, June 27, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Alva Schools Administrative Offices is a retirement reception for Superintendent Steve Parkhurst. (I realize this “Wednesday” Newsgram is delivered on Thursday to about half our circulation so this notice is too late for them.)

The board went through a couple of eastern Oklahoma superintendents who stayed briefly and moved on. I am now a believer that folks on the east side of I-35 have a different mind-set. All of the short term superintendents were nice people, but they were different.

When the board named Steve Parkhurst, a few groans occurred from people who said, “Oh, no, another former coach.” Well, Steve has worked out in an exceptional manner. The security of all school sites is vastly improved; the safety of physical facilities like walking down to the high school football field on the east or parking on its west side is greatly improved. And Alva has continued to win tons of academic, music and sports awards. Mr. Parkhurst, with his west of I-35 mind-set, fit quite well and I'm thankful that the school board took the risk of hiring someone local. Also, I think Tim Argo is an excellent choice to follow. It was really a no-brainer since he had served both as a principal at Lincoln, and as the assistant superintendent for a year or so. That choice is superior compared to dropping someone in here who has to learn all of our traditions.
