SNU Golf Sits 6th After Two Rounds of NSU Classic

MUSKOGEE, Okla. - The Southern Nazarene men's golf team shot a two-round total of 567 (-1) to sit in a tie for sixth place after the first day of the 20th Annual NSU Golf Classic at Muskogee Country Club.

Lindenwood leads the field after a two-round score of 552 (-16), including an impressive 274 (-10) in round two, while host Northeastern State is second after a two-round score of 557 (-11). Central Missouri is third at 558 (-10), followed by Arkansas Tech in fourth at 559 (-9), and Missouri Southern State in fifth at 565 (-3).

The Storm put together a tremendous first round, shooting a 278 (-6) to sit in third place before cooling off for a 289 (+5) in round two. As a team, the Storm were especially good in Par 5 scoring as they were -10 on the day. SNU finished with 29 total birdies, 110 pars, and an eagle.

Senior Rhett Bechtel opened his day with a 73 (+2) before responding with an impressive 67 (-4) in round two for a two-round score of 140 (-2) to sit in 20th. Bechtel had a couple of early bogeys in the second round, but caught fire with six birdies in the final 10 holes to move into red numbers.

Senior Dylan Igo was tremendous in round one, shooting a 66 (-5), including seven birdies, before shooting a 75 (+4) in round two for a two-round score of 141 (-1) to sit in 23rd. Igo finished with nine total birdies on Monday. Senior Jacob Prentice shot a 70 (-1) and a 75 (+4) to bring his two-round total to 145 (+3).

Rounding out the scorers for SNU was junior Ondrej Melichar, who shot a 69 (-2) and a 78 (+7) for a two-round score of 147 (+5), and freshman Will Coffman, who shot a 78 (+7) and a 72 (+1) for a two-round score of 150 (+8). Melichar had the lone eagle for the Storm in round one as well as 27 pars total.

The Storm will conclude play tomorrow afternoon in round three as they look to make up some ground on the leaderboard. SNU is set to tee off at 1:30 p.m. along with Harding and Washburn.
