Women's Soccer: Hillcats Conclude Season with 2-0 Win over LCU on Senior Day

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's soccer team concluded the 2018 season with a 2-0 victory over Lubbock Christian on Senior Day at Soldier Field on Saturday (Oct. 27).

The Hillcats (10-6-2, 7-5-2 Heartland Conference) tallied two second half goal to earn the 2-0 victory over the Lady Chaps. The goal came from two underclassmen on Senior Day for the navy and red.

Freshman Kori Watters netted the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute for RSU. Watters hit a shot to the lower right corner after cutting by the LCU defense for a 1-0 lead.

RSU added an insurance goal in the 76th minute when sophomore Hannah Mushisky totaled her team-leading eighth goal of the season. She cutback to get by the goalkeeper and sent in a shot into the wide open goal.

Two senior goalkeepers combined for the shutout victory. Taylor Sargent started in goal and went 70 minutes with two saves. Tayler Stover came in early in the second half and played almost 20 minutes with one save. The shutout was the ninth for the Cats in the 2018 season.

For the 90 minutes, the navy and red held a 14-11 advantage in shots, including a 6-4 edge in shots on goal.

Ten Hillcat seniors were recognized after the win: Sargent, Stover, Melissa Cardenas, BreAnn Tolleson, Abigail Resendiz, Marlaina Trahant, Jordan Downing, Eva Madarang, Madison Murray and Miranda Campos. All 10 seniors played in the contest on Senior Day.

RSU finished the 2018 season with a 10-6-2 record and 7-5-2 in the Heartland Conference for fifth in the league standings. The Hillcats finished with their second consecutive season of 10 or more wins and a winning record.
