SE Rallies for a 77-66 Win Over NWOSU

December 9, 2018

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern shot 64.0 percent in the second half and erased a double-digit third-quarter deficit to pull away with a 77-66 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in Great American Conference play with the next stop on the schedule coming on Dec. 15 when SE hosts Ecclesia in a non-conference contest in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

Southeastern hit 16 of its 25 second half shots, including an 8-of-14 mark from behind the arc, spearheading an 18-4 run over the final 5:15 of the third quarter which erased an 11-point deficit and gave the Storm a 56-53 lead heading to the fourth quarter thanks to an Alix Robinson three that beat the buzzer.

Robinson drained four threes on the night and finished with 12 points, but it was Katie Webb who powered the offense, finishing with 23 points, her fifth 20-point game of the season, and shot 9-of-13 from the field including knocking down the only three she took.

Kamryn Cantwell and Briley Moon each turned in 14 points, while Neely Noel added nine on 3-of-3 shooting from three-point range.

Webb and Robinson each finished with eight rebounds on the day to lead the Storm.

As a team SE finished with 26 assists, with Tracy Johnson handing out five of them while Cantwell, Moon and Noel added four each, with Cantwell and Moon also helping out defensively with three steals apiece.

The Storm owned the fourth quarter, leading by as many as 15 points at 72-57 before holding out for a 77-66 win, outscoring the Rangers 21-13 in the final frame.

Despite getting a pair of free throws from Webb before the opening tip due to an administrative technical foul on NWOSU, SE found itself on the wrong end of an 8-2 run to open the game and they were never really able to stop the momentum as the Storm closed to as close as five points, but would trail at the end of the first quarter by a 25-14 margin.

The deficit would reach 15 points before a Noel three would trigger a small 10-2 run to narrow the deficit to seven points with 4:33 to play.

Southeastern trailed by 10 points with 3:40 to play, but a Cantwell layup would kick off another small run, this one 9-2 and capped by a pair of Cantwell free throws that left the Storm trailing by a 36-33 margin at halftime.
