Bulldogs Drop Conference Contest to Bison

December 16, 2018

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – A 13-2 run to open the second half provided Oklahoma Baptist enough cushion to hold off the SWOSU Men's Basketball team for an 87-74 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.

The Bulldogs took control of the game in the early going, leading by as many as nine points in the first half following a driving basket from Jamar Sandifer that made it 26-17 with just under eight minutes to play in the half. OBU began to close the gap with a 12-3 run that tied the score, then pushed ahead to a six-point lead late in the half before late free throws by Marcus Thomas made it 39-36 in favor of the Bison at the break.

Sandifer scored the first basket of the second half to make it a one-point game, but Oklahoma Baptist provided the answer with a 13-0 run that put the Bison on top 52-38 with 17:26 to play. SWOSU got the deficit down to three with 2:16 to play on a pull-up jumper from Tre Evans, but OBU again had the answer as they scored the next 12 points and held SWOSU without a basket until the final seconds of the game.

SWOSU was led by Tre Evans, who struggled shooting the ball but connected on 9-of-10 free throw attempts to finish with a team-high 24 points and nine rebounds. Jamar Sandifer and Marcus Thomas had 15 and 13 points, respectively, off the bench while no other Bulldogs had more than seven points in the game.

The loss is the second straight for the Bulldogs, who enter the holiday break still searching for their first conference win. Next up for SWOSU is the final non-conference game of the season, which will take place on Saturday, December 29th against Randall.
