Storm ices Oklahoma, threatens tornadoes in Arkansas

February 8, 2019

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A storm system brought ice to Oklahoma overnight, leaving roads slick and causing numerous schools to close, while neighboring Arkansas saw torrential downpours and strong winds.

In Oklahoma, numerous traffic accidents were reported Thursday on slick roads. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation reported slick highways and bridges across the northern half of the state while schools and universities along and north of Interstate 40 have closed, including Oklahoma State University, the University of Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma City University.

The National Weather Service says Oklahoma will continue to see cold temperatures with wind chills ranging from below 10 degrees to the low 20s into Friday.

In Arkansas, trees fell and customers lost electricity as severe weather passed through with cooler temperatures predicted into Friday.
