ECU Women's Basketball Rushes Past Southern Arkansas

ADA, OKLA. – The East Central University women's basketball team sent its seniors out in style, with a 65-27 victory over Southern Arkansas in the final game of the 2018-19 season at the Kerr Activities Center.

Scoring

First Quarter: 20-3

The Muleriders (2-24, 1-19 GAC) took a 3-2 lead, with 8:43 remaining

The Tigers (19-7, 14-6 GAC) followed with an 18-0 run through the remainder of the half

Second Quarter: 13-10 (33-13)

ECU hit the first two points of the stanza to push the run to 20-0

SAU scored its second shot of the game, with 8:49 left on the clock

The teams then traded 5-0 (ECU) and 6-0 (SAU) runs for a 27-12 Tigers' lead, with 4:38 remaining

The Tigers ended the stanza on a 6-1 run for the 20-point advantage

Third Quarter: 14-8 (47-21)

The Muleriders kept the disadvantage around 20 points for the first six minutes

ECU then started an 8-0 run over the next 2:30 minutes to increase the lead to 26 (45-19)

Fourth Quarter: 18-6

In the first 2:30 minutes the Tigers pushed the lead to 31 (52-21)

Over the first 8:30 minutes there was close to a minute between each made shot

ECU kept up the pressure and increased the lead to 40 (62-22), with 2:30 left to play

SAU finished the game won a 5-3 run

The Tigers moved to 19-7 overall for the season

Tied for the sixth-most wins in a single season

Best finish is 30-5 in 1995-96

Best finish in the NCAA era is 20-11 (1997-98)

ECU has had 15-or-more wins in just four seasons as an NCAA member and 13 overall

Sr. Lakin Preisner led the team with her ninth double-double of the season and the 12th of her career

14 pts., 12 reb., 2 assists, 4 steals, 2 blocks

Now tied for 7th on the ECU Career Double-Doubles list

First player since 1998-99 to make the list

Teresa Jones-Benson: 16 (1998-99)

Fellow Sr. Tia Williams was the second player to record double-digits in the points column

12 pts., 4 reb., 3 assists,1 block, 1 steal

Jr. Sam Schwab recorded a career-best 12 rebounds­­

The Tigers out-shot the Muleriders 44.6 % (25-56) to 19.0% (8-of-42)

ECU also earned a 40.9% (9-of-22) to 25.0% (4-of-16) advantage in three-point shots

The Tigers claimed a 46-28 advantage on the boards

Includes a 12-6 lead in offensive rebounds

ECU honored its two seniors (Preisner and Williams) between the men's and women's games

The Tigers finished the season 10-2 at home

Best home record since 2013-14 season (13-1)

ECU is currently tied for second in the Great American Conference standings

Tied with Harding and Southern Nazarene

The 2018-19 GAC Championship Tournament field was finalized after today's games

The Tigers will be in the field with:

Southwestern Oklahoma State (No. 1)

Harding

Southern Nazarene

Henderson State

Southeastern Oklahoma State

Arkansas Tech

Northwestern Oklahoma State

SWOSU is the only team to secure its position

Thursday, Feb. 28 at Ouachita – 5:30 p.m.

Saturday, March 2 at Henderson State – 1 p.m.

The Tigers will then head to their eight-straight GAC Championship Tournament

March 7-10 in Bartlesville, Okla.
