SAU Softball's Favela named GAC Co-Pitcher of the Week

Russellville, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced their weekly awards for softball, and named SAU Softball player Elisa Favela the conference's co-pitcher of the week with upcoming opponent, Southern Nazarene's Brooklyn Sparkman.

Favela receives this honor for a six-game stretch that saw the junior throw a no-hitter and strikeout 31 batters in 19 innings.

Favela receiving this award marks the sixth time a Mulerider pitcher received this honor this season, with all three starting pitchers – Favela, Victoria Taylor and Sydney Wader – being named twice apiece.

Favela was previously named GAC Pitcher and Player of the Week on March 4th for her performances against Northwestern Oklahoma State, which included throwing a pair of no-hitters

In the circle, the Hawaiian hurler was dominant, going 3-0 on the week and throwing three complete games, two of which were shutouts, including a no-hitter against the Cotton Blossoms, her third of the season. She only allowed seven hits in 19 innings and three runs while walking two batters and striking out 31. Opponents this week only hit .109 against the junior

The Bossier Parish transfer now carries a 1.66 ERA on the season, second best in the conference behind teammate Wader. Her batting average against is only .202, fourth in the conference, and she is eighth on the strikeout leaderboard, with 69. She also ranks in the top ten in wins (3rd), hits allowed (4th), runs allowed (2nd), earned runs allowed (1st), walks allowed (2nd), doubles allowed (5th), triples allowed (1st) and home runs allowed (8th).

Favela and the rest of the Muleriders enter a four-game conference series this weekend as they host fourth-place Southern Nazarene on Friday and Saturday.
