Baseball Drops Extra-Inning Heartbreaker At Arkansas-Fort Smith

FORT SMITH, Ark. – The Rogers State Baseball team fell in the rubber match of a three-game series with Arkansas-Fort Smith on Friday, falling 2-1 in 10 innings.

The host Lions took the lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI single.

Rogers State responded in the second inning and capitalized on an error by UAFS to tie the game at 1. Dylan Russell hit a ball to shortstop. Then a throwing error by the second baseman allowed Nick Follett to score from second.

The game would remain tied into the 10th inning when Arkansas-Fort Smith scored with two outs to take the victory and the series.

Preston Whitten tossed six innings in a no decision, allowing one run on five hits with seven strikeouts.

Sean Robinson was dealt the loss after three innings of work, allowing one run on one hit and two walks. He also had two strikeouts.

After Robinson allowed a single and walk, Brock Knoten came in and recorded two outs before giving up the winning single.

Rogers State will return to action on Tuesday, hosting Bethany College in a non-conference contest. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at the Diamond Sports Complex.
