AMARILLO, Texas (May 7, 2019) – Lightning and thunderstorms near Amarillo Country Club prematurely ended Oklahoma Christian's afternoon on Tuesday in the NCAA Division II West Super Regional, but until then, the Eagles kept cruising atop the leaderboard.

With one OC player finished with her round and four others having played at least 15 holes, the 18th-ranked Eagles were at 26-over-par for the tournament, tied for the lead with No. 2 Dallas Baptist (Texas). DBU's players had completed between 11 and 14 holes.

Tournament host and No. 8 West Texas A&M was third in the elite 12-team field at 29-over par, with No. 4 California State-San Marcos fourth at 37-over and No. 16 Academy of Art (Calif.) tied for fifth with Simon Fraser (British Columbia) at 38-over. West Texas A&M and Cal State-San Marcos also had completed between 11 and 14 holes, while Academy of Art and Simon Fraser, like OC, had one player finished and all others with at least 15 holes completed on the par-71, 6,436-yard course.

The second round will resume starting at 9 a.m., with the final round set to begin after the completion of the second round. The top four teams in the 54-hole golf tournament, along with the top four players not on one of those teams, will qualify for the Division II Championship, set for May 15-18 at PGA National Resort's Champions Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

OC entered the day atop the leaderboard and only briefly fell out of the lead before ending up in a tie with its Heartland Conference rival, Dallas Baptist. The Eagles were 9-over for the round, led by senior Kate Goodwin of Tulsa, who had just recorded her second birdie – on the par-4 No. 7 – before play was halted. She was at 1-under through 16 holes and 3-over for the tournament, in third place.

One shot behind Goodwin was sophomore Shaley Goad of nearby Wheeler, Texas, who had three birdies Tuesday and was 1-over through 15 holes and 4-over for the tournament, tied for fourth in the 66-woman field. They both were chasing the individual leader, DBU's Ann Parmerter, who was even par on the day (through 11 holes) and 2-under for the tournament.

Senior Elizabeth Freeman of Edmond also had three birdies in her 17 holes and was 3-over for the round and 9-over for the tournament, tied for 14th.

Junior Abigail Rigsby of Courtenay, British Columbia, was 10-over through 16 holes and 14-over for the tournament, in 36th place, but freshman Alexandria Bennett of Plano, Texas, rallied and finished off a 6-over 77 for the Eagles. She was tied for 54th at 19-over for the tournament.
