OBU Outslugs No. 1 UAM to Reach GAC Final

ENID, Okla. – The Bison outslugged top-seeded UAM to advance to the championship series in the Great American Conference Tournament. The hot-hitting OBU lineup recorded 15 hits en route to handing GAC Pitcher of the Year Matt Lundh his first defeat of the season.

Weevil hitters got the better of OBU in the teams' matchup in Shawnee earlier this spring, but when it mattered most in the postseason, the Bison staff held UAM in check while the offense got rolling. Starter Caleb Bly held a perfect game through 4.1 innings as OBU jumped out to a 9-0 lead.

OBU got on the board in the top of the second on an RBI bunt single by Brett Bloomfield which scored Ramon Enriquez. A three-run home run by Joey Pledger in the top of the fourth extended OBU's lead to 4-0 before Garrett McKee blasted a solo shot to left field in nearly the same spot in the next at-bat. An Eric Carlson RBI single completed a five-run inning for the Bison offense.

OBU tacked on three additional runs in the top of the fifth before Bly finally surrendered a pair of runs to a potent UAM offense.

After the Bison extended their lead to 11-3 in the top of the ninth, the Weevils wouldn't go down without a fight, scoring a pair of runs in the final frame to make the score 11-5.

With the victory OBU advances to the championship series for the second consecutive season. With the tournament's double elimination format, game one is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon with an "if necessary" game to be played Wednesday at noon.

Todd Miller, the Voice of the Bison, will once again be on the call from David Allen Memorial Ballpark with live audio available exclusively at OBUBison.com.
