NAOMA RUTH CUSHENBERY

Naoma Ruth Cushenbery, 86, of Arkansas City, Kansas, died Sunday, August 11, 2019, at the Generations Home Plus of Arkansas City. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2019, at the First Baptist Church of Arkansas City. Burial will follow in the El Paso Cemetery of Derby, Kansas.

The family will greet friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Naoma was born May 2, 1933, in Fairvalley, Oklahoma, to Henry Sam and Nora (Vincent) Devine. She was reared and educated in Freedom, Oklahoma, graduating from Freedom High School in 1950. On January 18, 1953, she married Jim D. Cushenbery in Alva, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Derby, Kansas. Naoma was employed by the state of Kansas as an accountant for the University of Kansas Medical School at Wichita, Kansas, for 15 years. She also was the co-owner/bookkeeper for the Cushenbery Body Shop of Derby for over 40 years. Her last job was as a greeter for the Arkansas City Walmart for eight years.

Naoma was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arkansas City, the Wifani Sunday School Class and devoted volunteer to Manna Ministries.

Survivors include two sons, Scott and wife Melinda Cushenbery of Arkansas City, Kansas, Steve J Cushenbery of Derby, Kansas, grandchildren Charley D. Cushenbery of Hays, Kansas, Anna and husband Billy Hill of Aviano, Italy, Timothy and wife Amanda Cushenbery, Andrew Cushenbery all of Arkansas City, Kansas, great-grandchildren Lexy and Atticus Hill, John and Charlotte Cushenbery and Mak Cushenbery; plus a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister Carlene Brochers, and brothers John Devine, Dwayne Baker, Lynn Baker, Ward Baker, and Robert Baker.

A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church - Manna Ministries. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
