Goldbugs lose to Watonga 22-16

The first home game of the Alva Goldbug football season was disappointing for the young team. Alva hosted the Class A Watonga Eagles and lost 22-16. One of the four seniors on the Goldbug team, Reece Martin, was out with a rib injury. His absence was noticeable during the game, but some younger players stepped up to try fill the speedy Martin's shoes.

Watonga has a seasoned senior quarterback in Michael Reza, but probably their biggest threat was a big junior Joe Rinehart. He used his size and strength to barrel his way through the Alva defense. The Goldbugs had a hard time stopping him in the...
