SNU: Late Push by Men's Soccer Not Enough

September 27, 2019

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - A last minute push by the Southern Nazarene University Men's Soccer team was not enough to overcome the deficit created by Northeastern State on Thursday evening.

The Crimson Storm (1-6, 0-3 GAC) dropped their third Great American Conference match to the Riverhawks (4-3, 2-1 GAC) as NSU defeated SNU 4-2.

The score hardly tells of the resilient effort put forth by the Storm. Bence Mocsari snagged himself 11 saves of the 24 shots taken by the Riverhawks, including a save on a penalty in the 61st minute. On the offensive side of the game for SNU, Angel Lopez and Ethan Castillo were able to score their first goals of the season. Lopez's goal came in the 22nd minute of the match, assisted by Sergio Diaz, while Castillo's goal shot through in the 86th minute of the contest.

However, the Riverhawks were too strong as they shot 24 times and scored four times. The earliest of their goals came in the 7th minute of the match by Flynn Semmerling. NSU would score one more time before the half and then two more in the second half. These goals were put in by Ben Watson (44:15), Aaron Ugbah (60:40), and another by Flynn Semmerling (87:00).

The Storm will travel to Claremore, Okla. on Saturday to take on Rogers State University (4-2-1, 1-2 GAC).
