Northwestern's Wright selected to All-Super Region 3 First Team

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State University standout Maurice Wright Jr. added to his honors Thursday after being named 2018 Conference Commissioner's Association All-Super Region 3 First Team.

Wright's selection makes for five straight years the Rangers have had a representative on the D2CCA All-Super-Region 3 team.

"I couldn't think of anyone more deserving than Maurice Wright Jr. of this first team All-Region award," stated Northwestern Head Coach Matt Walter. "It is a testament to how hard he works and the time that he has put in as a student-athlete here at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. The impact he has had on his teammates and this university will not be forgotten. He has left an incredible legacy for the players to follow here at Northwestern."

A native of Luther, Wright turned in a stellar senior campaign. Tallying 131 tackles during the 2019 season, the most in the Great American Conference and third most in the nation. His total tackles are also the most tackles by a Ranger since the program entered the NCAA Division II ranks.

To go along with his total tackles this season, 65 were for solo tackles and 8.5 were behind the line of scrimmage. Wright end his four-year career at Northwestern with the most tackles in school history, ending his career with 456 tackles, the second-best total in the history of the GAC.

Twice he registered at least 20 tackles, including 25 against Harding on Oct. 26 to establish a Great American Conference single-game record. It also represented the highest tackle count in a DII game in almost four years. Wright concluded his career as the Northwestern career tackle leader and he is the career solo tackle record holder for the GAC, with 223.

Wright was also named the GAC Defensive Player of the Year and listed on All-GAC First Team voted on by the coaches after the conclusion of the season.

The GAC led all selections collecting 20 total picks, 10 on both first and second teams. The MIAA had 12 choices, while the GLIAC retained 11 places and the GLVC claimed seven spots.
