Ponce, Freemyer make GAC All-Decade Team

Russellville, Ark. – Two former Northwestern baseball players, Jonathan Freemyer, graduate of 2014, and Johnnuelle Ponce, graduate of 2019, were honored recently by being announced as members of the Great American Conference Decade team, which was announced Wednesday morning.

Over the course of the next few weeks, the Great American Conference will reveal All-Decade teams for the 13 sports for which the league sponsors a championship. The league will also announce a 'Program of the Decade' for each sports which goes to the team that earned the most points and highest percentage of points based on the league's two All-Sports trophies.

Freemyer played for the Rangers from 2013-2014. He earned 2014 player of the year, and was two time all GAC team in both of his seasons at Northwestern. He started in 79 of the 81 games he played. Freemyer hit .350 with 21HR 85RBIS with 104 hits, which he manned the outfield for those two seasons. In those two season he had 111PO along with five assists with a fielding percentage of .958.

Ponce, was with Northwestern baseball from 2018-2019 where he took home the accolades of 2019 GAC player of the year along with being honored on the all GAC team in both seasons. He hit .331 along with 26 HR 95RBIS, and 110 hits, while holding down one of the outfield positions. He had 223 PO along with eight assists and a field percentage of .971.

The original list of nominees consisted of players that met at least one of the following three criteria: earned an "Of the Year" award, named to at least two All-GAC First Teams or at least three All-GAC teams. The body of voters consisted of GAC coaches, sports information directors, athletic directors, senior woman administrators and media members. The All-Decade teams consisted of all nominees named on at least 50 percent of returned ballots.
