Suspect shoots, wounds sheriff's deputy in southwest Kansas

CIMARRON, Kan. (AP) — A man has shot and wounded a Kansas sheriff's deputy who was investigating a domestic disturbance, authorities say.

Gray County Undersheriff Jeff Sharp told KSN that when deputies responded early Saturday to the scene near Cimarron in southwest Kansas, a woman told them that a man may have injured himself with a firearm.

While law enforcement was investigating, shots were fired from the basement of the home injuring one officer in the lower leg. He was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition.

The Gray County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post that the suspect is still believed to be barricaded inside his home.
