Double-murder suspect in killings of mother, son captured

ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. (AP) — A suspect wanted in the double-slaying of an Alabama woman and her 18-year-old son is in custody after four days on the run, authorities said.
Ashley Paul Kenney, 24, was taken into custody Friday by the Alexander City Police Department, the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force, the Tallapoosa County Sheriff's Office, Russell Land Security, ALEA Water Patrol and ALEA Aviation in Our Town, in Tallapoosa County, said Central Alabama Crime Stoppers director Tony Garrett.
It was unknown whether Kenney is represented by an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
A citizen provided information that led to Kenney's arrest, Garrett said. Crime Stoppers will issue a $2,000 reward in the case once Alexander City police investigators confirm the inform, al com reported.
Around 11 p.m. Monday, Alexander City police responded to a disturbance and found two victims dead from gunshot wounds. The victims were indentified as Stephanie Nicole Motes, 40, and her 18-year-old son, Cody Lane Motes, both of Alexander City.
Kenney lived with the Moteses, Garrett said.
The suspect fled the scene in a purple Chevy Geo Tracker. Kenney ditched the vehicle at a trailer park in Kellyton, but remained on the loose before his capture Friday.
