Andrew Santangelo named assistant director of athletics for communications

ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State University Director of Athletics Brad Franz is pleased to announce the promotion of Andrew Santangelo to the Ranger athletics department administrative staff. Santangelo moves into the role of the assistant director of athletics for communications.

Franz said, "Chris Maple has done a good job in continuing to move our athletic communications forward and promoting our student-athletes and athletic programs. Andrew has worked side by side for two years with him and understands the role he is stepping in to for promoting and covering all of Ranger athletics. I look forward to his work with our programs."

As the head of the Northwestern athletics communication office, Santangelo will serve as the primary media contact for all Ranger athletics. He will also oversee a staff of graduate assistants, student assistants and multiple student staff members.

Santangelo assumed the new role after spending the last two academic years as the Athletic Communications graduate assistant. While a graduate assistant, he assisted in the coverage of 14 intercollegiate varsity programs and served as the primary statistician for baseball, basketball, women's soccer and volleyball.

A native of Collegeville, Pennsylvania, Santangelo received his undergraduate degree from Oklahoma State, where he worked as an event presentation intern.

Santangelo takes over the role following the departure of Chris Maple, who served in the position for two years as assistant director of athletics for communications. Maple moves on to the University of Fort Lauderdale in a similar role.

"I am blessed and honored to be selected as the next assistant director of athletics for communications. I want to thank Brad Franz and Tim Lauderdale along with the rest of Northwestern for welcoming me with this opportunity. I also would like to thank the staff and especially Chris Maple for helping me grow and learn, not only in the communication department but as an individual as a whole these last two years as an assistant.

"This position here as the assistant director of athletics for communications is an excellent opportunity to further my career and continue to live the dream of working in sports. I am incredibly excited to continue to work here at Northwestern and continue work with our staff to continue to help the communication department grow and achieve our goals! Thank you again to everyone involved at Northwestern for this special opportunity."

Santangelo graduated from OSU in 2019 with a degree in sports management. He recently completed a master's degree in adult education management and administration, emphasizing sports administration, from Northwestern.

He will reside in Alva.
