Memorial services for Jerry Cecil Cox will be 2 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2021, at the Alva First Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Ruwaldt officiating. He was cremated at his request under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.

Jerry Cecil Cox, son of the late Cecil and Blanche (Cushenbery) Cox, was born February19, 1941, in Alva, Oklahoma, and passed away August 16, 2021, in Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 27 days.

Jerry grew up in Alva and attended the Alva Schools. He began working when he was 16 at United Brake and Electric, now Honda of Alva. He still worked there part-time when he began working for the Alva Public Schools as a custodian.

In 1962, he was united in marriage to Wanda Helton in Waynoka, Oklahoma. He retired from the school system after 41 years. He was co-owner of Pony Boy Lures for several years. He also served several years as custodian of the First Baptist Church where he also helped his wife with the Samaritan Purse Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry.

He enjoyed fishing with friends during Spring Break at the Lake of the Pines in Texas. For over 30 years, he helped Jim Hannaford during Elvis Presley Week in Memphis with Jim’s booth, selling Elvis items to fans from all around the world.

Jerry served six years with the National Guard in Alva where he reached the rank of Sergeant. He also retired from the Alva Fire Department as a Captain after 20 years as a volunteer fireman. He was honored to be an Honorary FFA Member.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Blanche Cox; his grandparents, Ben and Bessie Cox and Fred and Dora Cushenbery.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Wanda, of Alva; his daughter, Beth Cox and fiancé, Ronnie Hoskins; his brother, Joe Cox of Kiowa, Kansas; his sister-in-law, Peggy (Mel) Bartlow of Marble Falls, Arkansas; his brother-in-law, Earnest Helton of Winfield, Kansas; his sister-in-law, Patsy Boswell Helton of Rockwall, Texas; other relatives and many friends.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Alva Volunteer Firefighters or the Alva Senior Citizens.
