Garner with three touchdowns against UAM

ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Rangers returned home for game six as they played against the Weevils of Arkansas-Monticello last Saturday. The Weevils would use an explosive second quarter to help lead to their win with 21 points in the quarter.

The Weevils improve on the season to 4-2 as the Rangers drop to 0-6.

Rangers quarterback Tanner Clarkson threw for 260 yards resulting in three passing touchdowns all to wide receiver Gavin Garner. Calion Baker led the Rangers with 77 rushing yards and Clarkson with 49 rushing yards. Garner with 168 receiving yards that resulted in him having 21 points on the game.

Nehemiah Lewis led the Rangers with 13 tackles, with two sacks. Brian Holiday was second with 10 tackles and one sack. The Ranger defense forced two interceptions one by Sam Long and Braxton Kearns.

The Rangers got on the board first with a 25-yard field goal by Connor O'Neal with eight minutes left in the first quarter. The field goal came after Kearns stopped the Monticello drive with a interception.

Shortly after, the Rangers scored their first touchdown with four minutes left in the first quarter from Clarkson throwing a 21-yard pass complete to Garner, for a score of 10-0.

Arkansas-Monticello got their first touchdown with 1:49 left in the first quarter. Weevils quarterback broke through the Rangers defense and rushed for 46 yards resulting in a touchdown to cut their deficit to 10-7.

Northwestern closed the first quarter with a touchdown answering the Monticello score to push their lead back to 10 following a 52-yard touchdown pass to Garner from Clarkson.

The Weevils used a big second quarter to take control of the game with 21 points in the quarter to the Rangers' zero following Cross's two touchdowns in the quarter. This pushed Arkansas-Monticello to lead the Rangers into half-time with a 28-17 lead.

The Rangers came out strong and got their last touchdown in the fourth minute of the third quarter. Clarkson's 73-yard pass to Garner completed for a Ranger touchdown, shrinking the Ranger deficit to a score of 28-23.

The Weevils bounced back with two touchdowns in the third quarter, extending their lead to 42-23.

The game was scoreless in the fourth quarter, which led the Weevils to their fourth win of the season.

The Rangers will be back on the Road on Oct. 16 as they travel to play the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Kick-off will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Durant, Oklahoma.
