Alva High School track teams had a good showing at state. The Alva High School Ladybugs brought home several medals from the state Class 3A track meet at Western Heights last weekend. Overall the girls' team had an eighth place finish. With a team 4.0 grade average, the Ladybugs took the academic state championship.
Senior Brooke Perez won the long jump championship with a jump of 17 feet, 0.25 inches.
Sophomore Triniti Miller took second place in the high jump with a 5 ft., 2 in. mark.
Freshman Lakin Gaddy raced to a third place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.50. Gaddy also finished sixth in the 200 meter dash with a 26.82 time.
Senior Mary Kate Foster was sixth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 49.50. She came in 11th in the 100 meter hurdles with a 17.60.
Mackinze Mackey, a freshman, was seventh in the 3200 meter run and 13th in the 1600 meter run.
Senior Constance Ruiz finished 12th in the pole vault with 7 ft. 6 in.
The Ladybugs came in seventh in the 400 meter relay with a time of 4:20.77. On that team are Mary Kate Foster, Brooke Perez, Jaycee Kelln and Lakin Gaddy.
In the 100 meter relay, Alva finished ninth with a time of 51.60 with the team of Jaycee Kelln, Brooke Perez, Cynthia Samaniego and Lakin Gaddy.
The Alva girls also had a ninth place finish in the 800 meter relay with a time of 10:45. Mary Kate Foster, Mya Williams, Carly Argo and Mackinze Mackey make up that team.
The Alva Goldbugs did well in several events. A new school record was set by the 200 meter relay team of Jaxon Jones, Weston Tucker, Syon Rey and Drake Wharton. They came in sixth at state with a time of 1:30.82.
The 100 meter relay team also came in sixth with a time of 43.37. Running that relay were Jaxon Jones, Weston Tucker, Syon Rey and Drake Wharton.
Senior Jackson Feely placed ninth in the high jump with 5 ft. 10 in.
Weston Tucker finished tenth in the long jump with 19 ft. 7.25 in. Tucker was also tenth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.93.
Drake Wharton came in 13th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.41.
Jaxon Jones finished 13th in the 110 meter hurdles at 17.18.
Ladybug head coach is Kanon Collins while Dave Foster is head coach for the Goldbugs. Assistants are Ryne Wilson, Matt Tucker, Summer Foster, Bret Rider and Kelly Parker.
