Georgia Lee (Hildebrand) Martin was born on a farm in Alfalfa County, Oklahoma, on January 7, 1922, and departed this life at age 100 years and 4 months. Her early life was spent on a farm claimed by her grandfather Hildebrand during the Cherokee Strip land rush run of 1893. She lived there with her parents Lee and Victoria and her brother Robert. She later grew up near the south Kansas community of Kiowa and graduated from Kiowa High School in 1939. She then attended Northwestern Teachers college in Alva, Oklahoma, for one year.

She made her home in Wichita, Kansas, since 1941. She was married to James R. Martin December 24, 1941. This union bore two children: daughter, Sharen Kay and son, James Lee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Victoria; brother Robert, and husband, James.

Those mourning her passing include children, son, James (Shirley) Martin of Topeka, Kansas; daughter, Sharen Kay (John) Rayburn of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, John (Michelle) Hall of Prospect, Kentucky; Tracy Pike of Cochran, Georgia; Abbey (Austin) Horner of Camas, Washington; Ben (Kasey) Martin of Basehor, Kansas; great grandchildren, Kelsey and Allison Hall, Christian and Megan Pike, Makenna, Camryn, and Silas Horner, Sophia and Emilia Martin; nieces, Laurie (Gene) Delano and Becky (Randy) Armstrong; second daughter, Connie Chambers, along with many other family and friends.

She grew up in the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl era, was with husband, James, during World War II, helped build and nurture the family throughout the 50s-70s and enjoyed retirement and travel throughout the 80s and 90s. Along the way she celebrated 70 years of marriage with James. Following the death of husband, James R. in 2012, her attention focused on her growing family of great-grandchildren who knew her simply as GG. Ranging in age from less than a year up to the early twenties, she was so proud of all.

Her family was her focus and she was happiest when doing things for them. She loved sports and especially those featuring her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Reading and traveling allowed her to reach the world and were two of her most favorite things to do.

Generous to a fault, she was always most concerned about her extended family as opposed to her own well-being. She excelled in being a mom, grandmother, and great grandmother, always exhibiting that special mixture of understanding and gentle touch. She will always be remembered as a loyal friend and neighbor to many people throughout her life.

A celebration graveside service for Georgia will be Monday, June 20, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Riverview Cemetery outside of Kiowa, Kansas, with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Kiowa. Online condolences may be made at http://www.lanmanmemorials.com.
