Georgia Maxine Hess was born, February 12, 1936, in Kay County, Oklahoma, daughter of Carl Preston Rash and Goldie Blanch (Smith) Rash. She spent her early childhood in Uncas, Oklahoma, before moving to Wakita, Oklahoma, where she graduated from high school.

On June 17, 1955, Georgia was united in marriage with Roy Theodore Hess. After spending four years in California, while Roy served in the Army, they made their home in Waldron, Kansas, where they were blessed with four children: Max, Marty, Carla, and Monty.
