Velma Mayfield, a former resident of Alva, Oklahoma, passed away from heart failure on June 29, 2022, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Velma was born to George and Addie Keck on November 14, 1920, at the family farm north of Alva. Velma attended Capron schools. She then attended Northwestern State College (now University), majoring in commerce, and earned a B.S. degree in 1941. During her student days, Velma served as an officer of Sigma Sigma Sigma and Theta Phi Beta sororities, was secretary of the MacDowell Music Club and Student Council, and was on the Dean's Honor Roll.
