Alva Ladybugs take second at Cherokee Invitational

• Goldbugs finish in fifth place

The Alva High School Ladybugs took second while the Goldbugs took fifth place in team finishes at the Buddy Murrel Invitational at Cherokee on Tuesday.

The Ladybugs earned several team and individuals medals at the meet. The 4x440 relay team of Lyndee Fraire, Kylie Adair, Channing Ferguson and Lakin Gaddy took first place with a time of 4:20.56.

Three other relay teams placed third. Kylie Adair, Mya Williams, Carly Argo and Channing Ferguson came in third in the 4x800 relay with a time of 10:57.91.

In the 4x200 relay, Lyndee Faire, Cynthia Saminiego, Kylie Adair and Myah Graves placed third with a time of 1:54.07.

Josie Webster, Myah Graves, Cynthia Samaniego and Lakin Gaddy took third in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 53:24.

In the individual placings, Triniti Miller took first place with a high jump of 5-00.00. Although she didn't medal, Myah Graves contributed to team points with a fifth place finish in high jump.

Lakin Gaddy medaled in two individual events, placing first in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:01.62. Gaddy was second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.71.

Channing Ferguson took third place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:38.50.

Josie Webster took home a third place medal for the 300 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 51.74. Webster also placed fifth in the 100 meter hurdles to earn team points.

As a team, the Ladybugs had a total of 100 points to take second in the meet behind Guthrie with 147. The Crescent team placed third with 91 followed by Cherokee with 89 in fourth and Laverne in fifth place with 36.

The Goldbugs placed fifth as a team with four team members earning medals.

Weston Tucker brought home three medals. Tucker earned first place in the long jump with a distance of 21-08.00. He was second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.18, and he took third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.56.

Kelan Penco took first place in the high jump, reaching 6-00.00. He did not medal in the 400 meter but took fifth place to add team points.

Cameron Longhurst placed second in the high jump behind Tucker, reaching 6-00.00.

Allie Pollock took third place in the discus throw with a distance of 128-10.

Demarkus Wharton just missed medaling in the 400 meter, taking fourth place and adding to team points.

As a team, the Goldbugs had a total of 54 points to take fifth place. Guthrie led the field with 112 points followed by Timberlake with 98. Cherokee and Laverne tied for third with 66 points apiece.

The teams compete at a meet in Chisholm today, April 14.
