World Champion Team Ropers Smith/Vander Hamm capture third at national finals

Two other South Barber boys competed at nationals

 

How many junior high students do you know that can say they won the World Team Roping Championship one year and then captured third place in the World competition the next year? Well, folks in Kiowa, Kansas, can.

Kiowa cowboy Steele Smith, who just finished 7th grade at South Barber, and his team roping partner, Logan Vander Hamm of Ingalls, Kansas, just accomplished that feat. The duo had just won the Kansas State Team Roping Championship, which qualified them for the National Junior High Finals arena in Perry, Georgia, last week.
