Waynoka girl dies in ATV wreck

An 11-year-old Waynoka girl has died following an ATV wreck. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the girl was flown by AirEvac to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was admitted with critical internal injuries on Wednesday and passed away at 7:06 a.m. on Thursday.

The wreck occurred on July 5 at approximately 7:37 p.m. near County Road 310 and Custer Road, approximately five miles northwest of Waynoka.

The juvenile was driving a 2013 Polaris ATV turning northbound on County Road 310 from Custer Road. The OHP report says the girl was traveling too fast for the curve and for the driver’s ability. The ATV departed the roadway to the left, rolling three-quarters of a turn, coming to rest on its side on top of the girl.

The Waynoka Fire Department extricated the girl from the wreck.

Trooper Justin Barney investigated assisted by Woods County Sheriff’s Office, Waynoka Fire, Waynoka EMS and AirEvac.
