Virginia B. Pitts and Harold E. Stands were married on August 2, 1953, in Rosehill Kansas.

Their marriage blessed them with four children, Steve Stands and wife Susan (of Edmond), Treva Custer and husband Craig (of Booker, Texas), Jolene Peterman and husband Kirk (of Monticello, Indiana) and Rhonna Ames (of Alva); 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Gene and Virginia moved to Alva in 1962. Gene worked for the United States Postal Service for 20 years and retired in 1996. Virginia taught school for the Alva Public School system for 23 years and retired in 1995.
