The Alva Goldbug football team will open their 2023 season at Purcell tonight, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. The Goldbugs had an overall record of 3-7 last year with 2-5 in district play. This will be Coach Dave Foster’s third year to lead the team.

Like the Goldbugs, the Purcell Dragons are also a Class 2A team. They are coached by Aaron Dillard and had a 5-5 overall record in 2022. They were fifth in their district with a 3-4 record.

The Goldbugs travel to Thomas next week with a 7 p.m. kickoff on Sept. 1. The first home game will be Friday, Sept. 8, when Alva hosts the Fairview Yellowjackets on faculty appreciation night.
